Springplaits Saffron of Smale

"Saffron"

2000-2014

It is with a very heavy heart that I have to announce the sad loss of Saffron recently.

The doors had been slowly closing over the past few months but at the equivalent human age of 96 it was to be expected. She chose the time when she decided to stop coming for walks in the forest with me last summer and has enjoyed a quiet retirement.

Saffron was my mentor 0 she gave me everything with quiet undemanding love. She won several working tests although she really did them to please me ! Her love was picking up and she worked beside me for over twelve and a half years. I learnt to respect her knowledge and she would often mark a bird that I hadn't seen and look at me saying "come on Mum - that bird needs picking". She was calm and obedient and worked tirelessly almost always achieving what she had set off to do.

Saffron had 2 litters of puppies, a total of 15 of which we were very proud. She started my line of Fox Red puppies and she lives on in her progeny. Many of her offspring have worked beside her and learnt from her over the years.

Saffron is massively missed - I am so grateful to Greg for the amazing photos I have as a memory of her. She lives on in Pimms, Beetle, Scrumpy and Kayla

RIP Saffron xx
